Candles have a great memory, which is why the first burn is the most important. Your candle simply needs enough time to develop a full melt pool and memorize it. Doing this helps prevent tunneling (built-up wax around the side of your candle that never seems to melt) and increases the life span of your candle. If your candle has already started tunneling it's still not too late to fix it. Take some foil and wrap it around the perimeter of the candle, leaving a hole at the top for the candle to breathe. Once your candle has completely liquefied across the top, the melt pool has been reset.
